Atherosclerosis
Atherosclerosis is a disease in which the internal layer of the arteries accumulate fat, cholesterol, calcium and other substances, forming the so-called atherosclerotic plaques. Over time, the plates harden, the arteries become narrowed and the flow of oxygen-rich blood to organs and other parts of the body decreases. Atherosclerosis can lead to serious health problems, including heart attack, stroke and even death.

Atherosclerosis can affect any artery in the body, including heart, brain, arms, legs and pelvis. Depending on which arteries are affected developing various diseases.

* Ischemic heart disease (CHD). Observed in the presence of atherosclerotic plaques in the walls of coronary arteries. In reducing blood flow or blockage of coronary arteries may occur chest pain and develop a heart attack. Globally, ishemichmichnata heart disease is one of the major diseases leading to death.

* Cerebrovascular disease. Observe the formation of plaques in the carotid arteries that supply oxygen-rich blood to the brain. When blood flow to the brain is reduced or blocked, you may experience a stroke or stroke.

* Peripheral arterial insufficiency. Occurs when the accumulation of plaques in large arteries that supply oxygen-rich blood to the legs, arms and pelvis. Reduced or blocked blood flow leads to numbness, pain, and sometimes the development of dangerous infections in the relevant parts of the body.

Atherosclerosis may be no symptoms and the first signs of the disease to a heart attack or stroke.

The main treatment of atherosclerosis lies in the change in lifestyle. In some cases you may need medication, and perform special medical procedures.

The cause of atherosclerosis is not known. However, certain risk factors increase the likelihood of its occurrence. These are:
