Grapefruit helps against diabetes
Eating grapefruit helps against diabetes, a study by Israeli scientists.
Antioxidant
naringenin, which gives the bitter taste of grapefruit, has the same
effect as two drugs that are now used in the second type of diabetes,
researchers found. One
suffered from diabetes when his body can not produce sufficient
quantities of the hormone insulin to regulate blood sugar levels. Naringenin increases the sensitivity of the body to insulin. It also helps patients to maintain a healthy weight, which is vital in the treatment of diabetes. Accumulation of weight a risk for diabetes from health problems and reduces the effectiveness of insulin. The researchers found that naringenin causes the liver to burn fat instead of body. Study author Jacob Nahmias of Jewish University in Jerusalem believe that naringenin is "remarkable" cure for diabetes. "Substances
such as naringenin have long been sought by the pharmaceutical
industry, but their development was hampered because of concerns about
their safety," wrote Nahmis in the newspaper "PLoS One".
