At first glance, they look different from other dogs. Have four legs, tail, four paws and .. six fingers - that's right and then to each paw. Additional fingers are the first indication that the breed
Lyundehund (Lundehund) is not like other dogs. Lyundehund is the rarest breed in the world and is still little known. The breed originates from Norway and these dogs have specialized in hunting seabirds, which received the name of the breed. At home they hunted seabirds on cliffs and caves along the coast of Norway. The world currently live about 1500 representatives of the breed. During the Second World War the breed almost disappeared due to illness and were only 6 other dogs.
This breed is not only the sixth finger is unusual. Lyundehund are extremely flexible. They
can rotate their heads 180 degrees to twist legs back, and to lie
completely horizontally position, their legs are located outside the
body. Six fingers helps to breed a good hunting in the wet slippery rocks. They do not use it when confronted, and serve as inlet ventuzi who hold them to avoid slipping. Another unique capability in Lyundehund is that they can shrink its ears, so as to protect from rain and winds. Flexibility allows them to be inserted into narrow openings in pursuit of food.
Nowadays,
specialists in breeding dogs are trying to restore the size of the
breed, but the problem is that they bear an average of 2 to 4 small
once. The breed has a genetic intestinal problems that lead to starvation, as some dogs can not absorb nutrients from food. For this problem there is no cure but the disease can be cured by a special diet.
